MOJO Analysis      15/10/18

To analyse the cover of a mojo magazine, linking it to genre and audience

Mid shot of Dave Grohl (star vehicle),lead singer of foo fighters.

colour palette used-white,yellow,black,red and grey.

majority of artists/bands not current but very influential and most popular in 70's/80's.

Masthead is modern san serif font and block capitals

Main cover line uses a serif block font.Name is largest section.

Minor cover lines use same font style as main CL but mix of block caps and sentence case.

puff=red circular sticker claiming 159 reviews.Yellow cd box.

Free CD called teen spirit-intertextual link to nirvana song.

Text placed around the main image, not covering the face.Main CL covers body only.

MOJO Analysis

Mid shot-They have focused in on the star vehicals facial expressions to show that he is very serious, this links to the rock genre that dave growl is a part of.

Star vehicle-Dave grohl,(lead singer of Foo Fighters). He is well known throughout the rock genre which is what some of the target audience will be apart of.

Colour palette used for the magazine are White, yellow, black, red and grey.Black is commonly used on magazines with a rock audience.

Bands/Artists featured:Ian Dury,Cat stevens,Elvis,Teen spirit,Lou reed,David gilmour.

The Masthead is modern sans serif font and block capitals. This suggests that music is a powerful,if not magical, influence which would appeal to the hardcore music fans that the magazine is aimed at.

The main cover line style is block capitals. They have also used multiple colours to make the text more appealing to the audience.

Minor cover line style is a mixture of block capitals and sentence case.

The Puff is the red circular sticker claiming 159 views.

The USP is the free CD called teen spirit intertextually linked to a nirvana song.

The Placement of text is around the edges of the face.So the star vehicle is the first thing you see on the magazine therefore it does not direct attention away from it.

DIRT     18/10/18

The font is used to make the text stand out even though it is small on the cover. Also they have added in more colours to make it appeal more to the audience. They have used the serif font to make it more appealing to the target audience, however they have not covered the image of dave grohl.

The lifestyle of a typical mojo audience would be a fan of rock in their 30s to 50s

Explain one way in which music videos use media language to differ from each other

Refer to one example of contrasting media language in two music videos you have studied to support your answer

One way in which the music videos use media language to differ from each other is by the editing ,this makes an interesting and relatable to the audience.

The Vamps-Somebody to you,the editing is shaky but keeps up with the pace of the music. The video has scenes cut off early to keep the song upbeat which makes it look like a homemade music video especially as it does not use CGI and when the scene changes it is a very fast with a wipe effect.

Little Mix-Black Magic, uses a slower editing style to the vamps but it is still quite a fast paced video apart from some of the slow motion when the girls become pretty. The video uses CGI as it has magic in the video.

RADIO 1 LIVE LOUNGE
To research the radio industry and BBC radio 1

The BBC operate 17 radio stations.
They operate over 40 regional radio stations.
Its work is funded principally by an annual television licence fee which is charged to all British households, companies, and organisations using any type of equipment to receive or record live television broadcasts and iPlayer catch-up.
The direct competition to pub radio is BBC radio 4.
classic fm,kiss, magic, talksport and absolute radio are 5 commercial radio stations.
you can listen to abc radio on your phone,in your car and radios.

14/1/19

To explore how BBC Radio 1 meets its PSB remit and meets the needs of its target audience.

Public Service Broadcasting
In the United Kingdom, the term "public service broadcasting" refers to broadcasting intended for public benefit rather than to serve purely commercial interests.

Radio 1:

Their main listeners are 15-29 years old
The radio 1 presenters are close to the age of the target audience so they will have have common interests and will use common language.

Radio 1 :Remit

To entertain and engage a broad range of young listeners.

Support emerging artists -especially those from the uk.

A platform for live music.

BBC Radio 1 have met its remit to entertain and engage a broad range of listeners, support emerging artists, especially those from the uk and provides a platform for live music by adding new and upcoming artists onto their homepage for some recognition, they have used presenters closer to the target audiences for each station to engage more listeners as they have something in common with the presenters and they provide live music for listeners, they have covered a wide range if genres and artists such as alessia cara, laurel and many more.

Convergence

Media convergence is a term that can refer to either: 1) the merging of previously distinct media technologies and media forms due to digitization and computer networking.

BBC Radio 1: The live lounge can be accessed via the commercial platform of vevo.

The advantage for the BBC is that they will gain a larger audience and publicity by being on another website that may be newly interested in radio 1 live lounge. The website vevo will gain more money as the website is gaining more views. The audience will have many ways to listen to the radio and music as they can listen on youtube and the radio.

17/01/19

Regulation

To explore how the BBC is regulated.

The radio industry is regulated by ofcom, who also cover the tv industry. They monitor the content that goes on the tv/radio.
Ofcom's rule:
Ensuring the optimal use of the electro-magnetic spectrum.
Ensuring that a wide range of electronic communications services including high speed data services-is available throughout the united kingdom.
Ensuring a wide range of tv and radio services of high quality and wide appeal.
Maintaining plurality in the provision of broadcasting.
Applying adequate protection for audiences against offensive or harmful material.
Applying adequate protection for audiences against unfairness or the infringement of privacy.

Material that might seriously impair the physical, mental or moral development of people under eighteen must not be broadcast.
In the provision of services, broadcasters must take all reasonable steps to protect people under eighteen .
Children must also be protected in the form of appropriate scheduling ensuring that they are not privy to material that is unsuitable for them.
To me appropriate scheduling means that tv shows that are on after a certain time may not be relevant to younger children as there is more mature language.

This live lounge like show is going to be made for classical music,it will be running 4 days a week,it will have short parts of asking the presenters questions via social media. It would be broadcasted from an area with a high population e.g. Spain/France.The show would have to be aware the standard midday rules set by Ofcom, such as as if a younger child was to end up watching it,the show would need to be family friendly so anyone can watch/listen.The show has a target audience of 45-70 year olds. This show would broadcast around 9 am to 3pm as the target audience will be awake and ready to watch even if they go out later in the day.The general demographics for this would be advertised on the radio e.g. BBC radio2 and 4,it would have segments of the news as that usually appeals to that audience.

24/01/19

To analyse the structure of the live lounge and the audience appeal.
The live lounge is aired at the same time on BBC radio 1 Xtra by Clara Amfo .It was originally hosted by Jo Wiley on her midmorning show until 2009.Being hosted by both radio 1 and radio 1 Xtra either two a more niche audience or enabling a wider audience .
