To explore the intertextuality of the lego movie

1.Emmet (Chris Pratt), an ordinary lego figurine who always follows the rules, is mistakenly identified as the Special -- an extraordinary being and the key to saving the world. He finds himself drafted into a fellowship of strangers who are on a mission to stop an evil tyrant's (Will Ferrell) plans to conquer the world. Unfortunately for Emmet, he is hopelessly -- and hilariously -- unprepared for such a task, but he'll give it his all nonetheless.

  • Young kids who play with lego - The movie appeals to young kids who play with lego because of the songs,characters and based around creativity.
  • Parents who played with it when they were young too - Gives them memories from when they played with lego as a kid.
  • Young adult cinema goers - It appeals to young adults because of the humour, the superhero characters and the action.
  • Both genders - It is aimed at both genders but there aren't as many female characters as there are male.

Location : Both movies have a big city as its main setting, Both have simulated worlds but they do have real worlds.

Characters : Emmett is Neo - The special ones, Wildstyle is Trinity, Vitruvius is Morpheus.

Themes/messages : Love, Action, To believe in yourself, Not to believe everything you see or hear.

Narrative : Good vs Evil, Emmett and Neo have to save the world.

Evaluate the advantages and the disadvantages of the intertextual relationship between the matrix and the lego movie.

The advantages of basing the movie on the matrix is that the adults or parents going to watch the film will understand all of it if they have seen the matrix when they were younger,Whereas the disadvantages are that the children will not get most of the movie but enjoy it only because the film is about lego but another disadvantage is that some of the parents might not have watched the film so they wouldn't get it either. In my opinion basing the lego movie on the matrix was a good idea because it will give the parents taking their children to watch a good memory from when they watched the matrix and the children will also enjoy it because of the characters in the movie and the lego.
